Guidelines

The following are the guidelines for Hops for Humanity:

  • Each member must commit to donate $100 per meeting ($400/year).

  • An Active Member is a member in good standing who has fulfilled all prior funding commitments. 

  • If a member is unable to attend, he/she can send a check to the meeting with another member. Otherwise, the member will be notified by e-mail immediately following the meeting with payment options. Hops for Humanity intends to deliver the donation to the winning charity within two weeks following the event. 

  • The chosen organization will be a 501(c)(3) charity that serves Elmhurst or the Greater Chicagoland Area.

  • At each meeting, all members who are current on their contributions can put their name in the nomination box for the chance to be selected to present a charity. If more than one of the selected members are presenting the same charity, other names will be drawn until three different charities can be presented. 

  • Each active member who is chosen to present a charity for consideration will be given five minutes to make a presentation.  The member's presentation must be made orally without the assistance of any visual aids such as PowerPoint, brochures or handouts. There will be time for questions/answers after the presentations. 

  • No national charities will be considered unless all of the money awarded will be spent locally. The intended purpose of our contributions is to have an impact within Elmhurst or in the Greater Chicagoland Area. 

  • The 501(c)(3) charity that is selected must agree to NOT use the names of individual contributors for future solicitations or give the information out to the public. If a charity does not adhere to this condition, it will be removed from any future consideration by the group. 

  • A representative from a selected charity will be invited to the next meeting to give an update on the use of the funds. 

  • Charities can be reconsidered at any subsequent meeting.

If you are a new member to Hops for Humanity, you can print out the Membership Commitment form in advance and either fax or mail to the office.
